5 Ways to Help Your Loved Ones Through the Holiday Season!

What if you are not depressed and it’s your loved one that suffers from depression through the holiday, thereby causing you to feel a little down too.  We covered surviving the holiday weekend last year, http://www.depressionnomore.care/2016/05/6-ways-to-get-rid-of-depression-over.html.   It’s always a good article to refer back to.

5 Ways Holiday

Here are 5 Ways to Help Your Loved One Through the Holiday Season!:

  1. Pray. (Did you expect something else coming from me?, LOL) Lay everything before God.  Write it if you need to.  The Bible speaks of making our petitions known to God.  List how you feel and what you’ve experienced.  Ask God to hold your loved one through this season and ask God to strengthen you to be the support that they need. 1 John 5:14, 15 14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:  15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
  2. Expect less. Don’t expect perfection. Isn’t it amazing that we expect perfect holidays?  We see the TV shows, the catalogs, the window displays with all of those smiling faces and we want to duplicate that at home.  You can smile and be very happy, just understand that mistakes will happen, things may not always go as planned and every once and in a while, occasions fall apart.  If we stop seeking perfection, we can learn to laugh at the mishaps and refocus on what’s important-spending time with those who we love.  Philippians 4:6 Be (anxious) careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. Parentheses are mine.
  3. Plan Ahead. Even though we should expect less, doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t plan.  Plan and plan some more.  Psalm 37:5 Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
    1. Plan for each holiday event. Think about outfits, transportation, do you have everything that you need.
    2. Plan for time to recuperate between events for your loved one. Both you and your loved one will need to rest to enjoy the festivities.  Resting will prepare you for any meltdowns that may occur.
    3. Plan time for their coping skills to be practiced and time to wind down. Allowing time to pull you together gives clarity and will do the same for them.
    4. Schedule some time for you to spend time together, i.e. walking, playing a game, taking a nap, etc. These are special times that you both will remember.
    5. Even if you visit someone else’s house, ensure that your loved ones “favorite dish” is there. Make them feel special.
    6. Plan some time to dance. Even if you are terrible, dancing relieves tension and gives you an opportunity to laugh.  It doesn’t matter who dances either.
  4. Chat it up. Talk about holidays in the past and talk about the future. Talk about whatever comes to your mind, as long as you’re talking.  When you’re done talking spend some quiet time.  Luke 24:32  And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?
  5. Be Thankful. Thank God for another Holiday Season together.  You didn’t want to spend it alone anyway.  Thank your loved one for spending the holidays with you. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Happy Veteran’s Day!

5 Steps to Follow!

Jesus is our perfect example…

Here, in the book of Luke, Christ gives us a wonderful example of how tho go through life. I thank God for what he showed my daughter and me while studying this.

1. Go back home. Return home. Jesus went to Nazareth.

2. Do what you were taught. Go to church. Jesus went to the synagogue.

3. Do what God instilled in you. Work in church. Jesus got up to read.

4. Proclaim what the word of God says concerning you. Jesus read the word concerning His life.

5. Live what the Word says about you. Luke 4:21.

You can’t go wrong declaring and speaking what God has said about you. How do you know what God has said? Read your bible. Jeremiah 1:5, Deuteronomy 28:13, Romans 8:37.

And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
Luke 4:16‭-‬19 KJV

Don’t Forget!

Recap: Don’t Forget!!

Don’t forget that God is omniscient, omnipresent and omnipotent. He knows everything, He’s everywhere and HE’S all- powerful. If you haven’t seen what God has promised you, it isn’t because of God. He’s waiting patiently for you to SPEAK the word that He’s promised, BELIEVE the word that He’s promised and LIVE the weird that He’s promised. Our obedience, faith and love for God is the resting place for His promises.

But you must not forget this one thing, dear friends: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day. The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.
2 Peter 3:8‭-‬9 NLT

Come to Your Senses!

It’s an amazing type of blessing to be able to come to your senses.

We read today a portion of the parable of the prodigal son in Luke 15:13-17.

God gives us so many chances. Here, this son makes up his mind to do what He wants to do, like so many of us. He goes out into the world and lives his life, like so many of us. He lives wild and crazy, like so many of us. He finds himself in a situation where he’s broke. We often find ourselves in situations based on how we are living, it can be financial, emotional, physical, health, etc.

The part that just blessed me in this version says, ‘he came to his senses’. I was blessed even further in the KJV where it says, ‘he came to himself’. God gave him a chance to remember who he was.

God does this for us. How many times have you come to your senses? I have countless times. God has given me so many chances. A lot of times I ignored them and like the prodigal son I found myself somewhere I didn’t want to be.

Tonight, I thank God for blessing me with the ability to come to my senses. I thank God! I thank God! I thank God! He’s so good! Who else would keep giving you chances? Who else would welcome you back with open arms? Bless His Name!

“A few days later this younger son packed all his belongings and moved to a distant land, and there he wasted all his money in wild living. About the time his money ran out, a great famine swept over the land, and he began to starve. He persuaded a local farmer to hire him, and the man sent him into his fields to feed the pigs. The young man became so hungry that even the pods he was feeding the pigs looked good to him. But no one gave him anything. “When he finally came to his senses, he said to himself, ‘At home even the hired servants have food enough to spare, and here I am dying of hunger!
Luke 15:13‭-‬17 NLT

Seek God!

Recap: Isaiah 55:6-13
There’s a blessing in seeking God. I was blessed with a powerful lesson as a young woman. I was taught to look for God like I would look for the keys to my own brand new car. The book of Hebrews teaches us that God rewards those who diligently seek Him. Here in Isaiah, it says to seek him while He may be found. The truth is, seek God NOW! Now is the acceptable time. Verse 7 days let the wicked forsake his way. Give it up. When the doctor tells you to give up something to save your life, what do you do? GIVE IT UP! The verse continues by saying return to God and He will forgive you. Do you need forgiveness? I sure do, every. single. day! Verses 8-11 explains why we should do this. It’s because we don’t know God’s thoughts. We don’t know what He has in store for us, so it’s better to do His will today and don’t delay. Verses 12-13 explains the promises of God for our lives when we seek Him with pour while hearts and obey Him with everything in us.

Seek the Lord while you can find him. Call on him now while he is near. Let the wicked change their ways and banish the very thought of doing wrong. Let them turn to the Lord that he may have mercy on them. Yes, turn to our God, for he will forgive generously. “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord . “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts. “The rain and snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth. They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry. It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it. You will live in joy and peace. The mountains and hills will burst into song, and the trees of the field will clap their hands! Where once there were thorns, cypress trees will grow. Where nettles grew, myrtles will sprout up. These events will bring great honor to the Lord ’s name; they will be an everlasting sign of his power and love.”
Isaiah 55:6‭-‬13 NLT

Another look at today’s scripture. James encourages us to confess our sins as a way of confronting the fact that our sins are unlike God. Confession helps us to deal with the issue while being honest that there’s a problem. When we uncover a problem we begin to look at how to solve it. When we confess our sins and pray for one another we begin the healing process. When we seriously pray the power of God in us causes change to occur. James gives us the example of Elijah. Elijah suffered depression and look at the results of his prayer life! Prayer really is powerful when we believe God!

Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. Elijah was as human as we are, and yet when he prayed earnestly that no rain would fall, none fell for three and a half years! Then, when he prayed again, the sky sent down rain and the earth began to yield its crops.
James 5:16‭-‬18 NLT
